Resources Stuck on "Loading File please Wait"

Introduction

If you are attempting to load a SMILE resource but are getting stuck on "Loading File please Wait" then it is likely that you have a missing or corrupted Soundfont. This file is responsible for providing the different instrument sounds used in Charanga resources - if it is missing or damaged then the instrument cannot load.

To fix this issue you will need to download and install the Soundfont. The process for doing this depends on whether you are viewing resources online through the website or offline using the Lesson Viewer.

Online Soundfont

step-21

If you are viewing a resource online and are unable to progress past "Loading File please Wait" then you should be prompted automatically to download the Soundfont.

Choose the "Download Large" option when prompted.

Offline Soundfont

step-31

If you are encountering this problem when using the Lesson Viewer then you can use the functions in the Help section to automatically download the Soundfont

Open the Lesson Viewer and click the Get Help button at the top of the screen.

step-41

Click the Download button next to "Get Latest Soundfont" to start the download.

Please ensure that you remain connected to the internet during this process.

Advanced Troubleshooting

If the above methods do not work then you can manually download and install the Soundfont into the correct locations on your computer's hard drive. The Charanga Soundfont can be downloaded here. You will need to save the downloaded file into the relevant folder as described below.

If you are experiencing problems when using the Lesson Viewer, save the Soundfont to the _cha5513\sf folder inside your Lesson Viewer folder.

If you are having trouble viewing resources online, save the Soundfont to the C:\charanga\shockwave\dswmedia folder on your hard drive.

Note that if you are experiencing this problem on both the website and the Lesson Viewer you will need to ensure that the Soundfont is present in both of these locations.
